The events of the History Forum are taking place from Thursday 28th May until Sunday 31st May, at Humboldt University, the German Historical Museum, the Maxim Gorki Theatre and on the campus between the said locations. Some parts of the programme, such as exhibitions or sets of events will be running throughout the period of the festival.
The History Forum combines a varied lecture and discussion programme with other forms of artistic engagement with history, for example film, theatre, readings, lectures, performances and music. Key podium discussions, such as with the acclaimed British historian Timothy Garton Ash, and equally artistic positions give the festival a framework.
The key podium discussions - as well as the opening and concluding events - are intended to address the significance of the historical events of 1989 for Europe and Germany: the political, cultural and societal dimensions of this turning point and different interpretations of the past and plans for the future. Intellectuals, artists, journalists, politicians and others actively involved in the shaping of European history and society are to discuss the events, consequences and perspectives of the peaceful revolutions of 1989.
A further key element of the History Forum takes the form of partner events. More than 100 partner organisations from Germany and Europe have (financial and intellectual) responsibility for the organisation of podium discussions, workshops, readings, exhibitions and much more. Their contributions and events will be running from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon and for the most part will be taking place in rooms in Humboldt University. The 150 or so individual events are expected to last approximately 90 minutes each. The spectrum of partner institutions taking part is very broad: there will be foundations, scholarly institutes, universities, memorials, initiatives for 'coping with the past', history workshops, establishments for political education, archives, libraries, publishing houses, cultural institutes, associations, and much more. The contact for partner events is Henrik Bispinck from Gegen Vergessen - Für Demokratie e.V., who can be reached via lab concepts, Friedrichstraße 206, 10969 Berlin, Tel. +49 30 25293256, Fax. + 49 30 25293261, bispinck@gegen-vergessen.de

Registration for the History Forum is not necessary, with the exception of the opening event.
